The geology of central Arizona represented in these images is centered and focused on the Phoenix area. These maps offer a more simplified view than that provided by a large database of geologic units, from which the maps are constructed. Thus, one is given a visually efficient version of a very complex subject for the purposes of presentation and a broad-scope view.
* Note: The quaternary units at the center and very bottom are shown divided, an effect especially evident in the map showing the recent litholgy. This is not a geologic feature, but an artifact of the methods used by those producing the maps. Specifically, it comes down to whether the same unit (with one part in the Phoenix North map, the other in the East-Central Arizona quadrangle) was mapped as early/mid or late Pleistocene.
