How to create a surface using Spatial Analyst in ArcView

(i.e. In order to produce contours of 'z-direction' data.)
Done using ArcView 3.3

Import shapefiles into ArcView
Add shapefiles you want to create a surface for to a View.

Turn on Spatial Analyst
From the 'File' menu, click 'Extensions.'
Check box next to 'Spatial Analyst.'
Click 'Ok'

Interpolate Grid
Make sure the theme you want to work with is selected.
In 'Surface' menu, click 'Interpolate Grid'
A dialog box will open.
In the dialog box, manipulate or accept choices.
Watch for the 'z-field' option, where you choose which column of data you want ArcView to create a surface from.
Click 'Ok'
(It may take a while to produce the surface...)

ArcView will create a new theme containing the surface of the data you defined.
