How to create a surface using Spatial Analyst in ArcView
(i.e. In order
to produce contours of 'z-direction' data.)
Done using ArcView
3.3
Import shapefiles into ArcView
Add shapefiles
you want to create a surface for to a View.
Turn on Spatial
Analyst
From the 'File' menu, click 'Extensions.'
Check box next to
'Spatial Analyst.'
Click 'Ok'
Interpolate
Grid
Make sure the theme you want to work with is selected.
In
'Surface' menu, click 'Interpolate Grid'
A dialog box will open.
In the
dialog box, manipulate or accept choices.
Watch for the 'z-field' option,
where you choose which column of data you want ArcView to create a surface
from.
Click 'Ok'
(It may take a while to produce the
surface...)
ArcView will create a new theme containing the surface of the
data you defined.
