How to combine themes/datasets in ArcView
(i.e. If your data set is
larger than the 65,536 records allowed by MS Excel)

Import shapefiles into ArcView
Add shapefiles
you want to merge to a View.
Turn on Geoprocessing
Wizard
From the 'File' menu, click 'Extensions.'
Check box next to
'Geoprocessing.'
Click 'Ok'
Merge Themes
In
'View' menu, click 'Geoprocessing Wizard'
A dialog box will open.
Select
'Merge themes together' (radio button)
Click 'Next'
Select themes to
merge. (Note: Hold down the 'Shift' key and click to select multiple
themes.)
Specify the theme to use fields from (uses that theme's number and
titles of fields)
Specify the output file.
Click 'Finish' (may take a
while with large data sets)
ArcView will create a new theme containing
the combined data from the merged themes.
